Drum Corps meets on Mondays from 3:00-3:50
This full year program is intended for ages 12+ (as of 8/31/2026) through graduation. Students who are chosen to participate will prepare various pieces with the goal of participating in local parades including Pella’s Tulip Time parades.
There are limited spots available for this class and students must audition for a spot. Students are required to take private lessons during their enrollment in Drum Corps.
The ability to read basic drum music would be helpful but it is not a requirement for this class.
Requirements:
Percussion lessons during enrollment in Drum Corps
Be able to carry up to ~35 Lbs. while marching
Audition:
Students must sign up for auditions. Audition date and additional audition information is coming soon.
Students will be provided a short cadence to prepare for auditions in August.
Students should also be prepared to display the following:
A basic sense of rhythm and timing
Single & double stroke rolls
Single paradiddles
Five-Stroke rolls
Flam taps
Students will be asked to play some or all of these rudiments from slow to fast back to slow. The director may ask the students to try different things at the audition so students should come prepared to be flexible and try new things.
